FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Where and how is your food produced?

Our meals are prepared and delivered daily out of our food processing centers. Our hard-working team in the food processing center cooks, packs, and delivers your meals daily/weekly. If you’d ever like to come take a tour, we would love for you to see the magic behind the meals first hand!

  • How do I cook the frozen entrees?

All of our frozen meal entrées contain fully cooked, frozen foods and simply need to be reheated prior to serving.  Specific heating instructions for each entrée is available for download here.

  • How do juice and chocolate milk fit into your school meal program?

We offer fruit juice and chocolate milk to our partners as part of a larger strategy to increase consumption of nutrient-rich fruit and dairy products. We offer nutrient-rich 100% fruit juice to provide students/adults with the essential vitamins and nutrients 100% juice provides while limiting the excess calories. Studies show people who drink milk (including chocolate milk) have higher intakes of calcium but do not consume more sugar or fat than people who don’t drink milk.

  • Can we have more than one condiment packet?

We design our meals so they are compliant with nutrition standards which includes factoring in the nutrients from condiments that people are offered with their meals. Condiments, except for ranch dressing and hot sauce, come included as part of an entrée. For example, breakfast pancakes may come with a packet of syrup or a lunch sandwich may come with a packet of mayonnaise. If extra condiments are served the nutrients would not be included in our analysis and compliance reporting so we can no longer guarantee the meal compliance.

  • What type of Vegetables do you source?

A variety of vegetables is key to providing people with the essential vitamins and nutrients they need. One easy way to do this is to “eat a rainbow” of vegetables of different colors. Here are five vegetable categories required over the course of a week. See below for an example:

    • Dark greens (braised greens, broccoli)
    • Red/Orange (butternut squash, carrots)
    • Bean/Legumes (pinto beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans)
    • Starchy (corn, potatoes)
    • Other (cucumbers, celery)
  • Are you able to accommodate special dietary needs?

We have made the commitment to provide our partners with vegetarian and dairy-free options daily. It’s up to each school/business to place orders for vegetarian and dairy-free items, so please reach out to your school/business if these options do not appear on your menus and you would like to see them. We help accommodate special dietary needs only regarding food allergies resulting from the eight major allergens as defined by the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA): dairy, soy, peanut, tree-nut, fish, shellfish, egg and wheat. We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

  • Are there gluten-free options?

Focus Foods has made the commitment to accommodate special dietary needs regarding food allergies resulting from the eight major allergens dairy, soy, peanut, tree-nut, fish, shellfish, egg and wheat. This means that while a portion of our meals may not contain wheat, we cannot guarantee gluten-free menu items at this time . We will do our best to accommodate your needs.

  • What about nut allergies?

We do not use peanut or tree‐nut ingredients in any of our recipes nor do we handle peanuts or tree nuts in our food processing centers. To be completely safe, we cannot guarantee that meals are completely free of traces of nut or nut residue since we partner with vendors whose products and fresh baked goods may be produced in facilities that handle and process nuts.

  • What about dairy allergies?

We have made the commitment to provide dairy-free options daily to our school/business partners. It’s up to each school/business to place orders for vegetarian and dairy-free items.

  • How do you design your meals?

Our meals are designed by culinary chefs to include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean protein and limiting levels of sodium (salt), sugar, and unhealthy fats—saturated fat, trans fat and dietary cholesterol.  All of our lunches include the five food groups, including the grain and vegetable subgroups.

  • What's different about your food?

We offer nutritious, high quality meals inspired by and designed for kids/adults. We pride ourselves on the quality of our food, and we’ve developed our menus based on carefully-considered ingredients and nutrition standards for a healthy diet. Our menus feature fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and a variety of whole grains. We limit added sodium, fat, and sugar in our meals, while targeting specific calorie ranges for each age-grade group.

  • What do the printed dates on the food mean?

The date printed on all of our shelf-stable food products indicate the date of manufacture/packaging of the product. This is not an expiration date, which is more the norm for products purchased in your local grocery store.
